Audio Light Systems Ltd has recently completed work at the Theatre Royal
Newcastle on the restoration project.
The ambitious development required the technical infrastructure to be
replaced in the main auditorium and surrounding spaces. Audio Light Systems
working to a Charcoal Blue specification completed the 5 month build with
the usual high standards required for this level of work.

Specification: Production lighting dimmers
The Theatre Royal Newcastle were given the go ahead to replace there long lasting dimmer system with 5 ETC Sensor racks and a additional 4 sine wave packs. After a long process of decision making Audio Light Systems were chosen as the installation company for the project.
During the same period the theatre was also undergoing a re-wire which also had to incorporate into the dimmer installation. Audio Light Systems design engineering team had to be incorporated into the installation to allow a smooth transition from the old to the new.

The stage managers desk has been rewired and reconfigured to allow for the installation of the ASL paging and signal processor components. The new installation gives the theatre a multi bus, multi zone, priority system fit for the most demanding of situations.

The refurbishment at Belgrade Theatre was a welcome addition to the performing arts scene in Coventry. The specification for the build was consultant-driven, with a range of typical theatre technical requirements including; working lights, paging, show relay & ring intercom. Over 10,000m of cable were installed over a 12 month build. Showing excellent form, only one cable fault was reported in the entire job! John Miller (Belgrade Theatre) commented “Audio Light Systems did exactly what they said they would do and it was a clear advantage having a knowledgeable specialist on site”.

One of the UK’s most famous theatres, The Theatre Royal Newcastle, required an upgrade of their old assistive hearing systems to a modern Sennheiser Infra red dual channel solution. The Theatre, which is a grade 1 listed building, needed an installer with a history of work in graded buildings while also having a knowledge of technical theatre systems. Audio Light Systems were the obvious choice, providing both the workmanship and the specialist skills required to carry out such a delicate installation. 14 IR radiators were installed around the 170 year old theatre auditorium to ensure even coverage across all the seating areas. The radiators transmit via infra-red light an audio signal to the audience members headsets, giving clear audio for the hard of hearing and audio description for the visually impaired.

The Usher Hall in Edinburgh is one of the UK’s most prestigious concert Halls. It underwent a 10 million pound redevelopment, giving the venue more modern facilities and greater space. As part of the upgrade a great deal of the technical systems were expanded and renewed, including the paging and show relay system.
Using over 10km of cable, over 100 speakers and a project lasting over 2 years, Audio Light Systems met the challenges with the skills required on this unique refurbishment project. The 10 zone paging and show relay system was designed to deliver an expandable, versatile solution which will last for many years.

As part of the refurbishment at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle an education studio theatre was required. This was to be used as a learning and performance space.
Audio Light Systems were presented with a bare shell with some old internal steel structure. A bespoke lighting grid and wiring infrastructure was installed to marry up to the existing steelwork. The end result was a typical example of a studio theatre with 36 ways of lighting dimmers and a matching patch panel. The lighting grid specification called for a black finish which was achieved using anodised black alloy for all the main components.

Perth Concert Hall is one of Scotland newest venues, which encapsulates a 1,200 seat auditorium, conference facilities, exhibition spaces plus much more. To increase their capability, extra control systems were necessary to help meet their demanding requirements. A Crestron Control system was opted for, due the reputation for quality and stability. LCD touch panels controlled the audio visual, production lighting, house lighting and also interfaced to the fire alarm system.

After an extensive 7.2 million refurbishment the Theatre Royal Newcastle fully reopened to the public to rave reviews. The project included extending the stage and installing new and improved technical facilities. This was part of a larger project which involved extending the theatre’s facilities into the old Barclays Bank building on Market Street, creating a new Learning Space, Box Office and bar/bistro, revitalising the theatre building and consolidating its position as one of the great theatres of Europe. Audio Light Systems were responsible for the extending & installing to the paging, communications and video systems over the 5 floors and performance spaces.
